Brinkley wins on The Contender

Yerington's Jesse Brinkley is still a contender.

Brinkley won a unanimous decision over Jonathan Reid in a bout that was telecast on NBC's "The Contender" on Thursday night. With the win, Brinkley improved to 24-1, still with 16 knockouts.

More importantly Brinkley stayed alive for a chance to be one of the last two boxers to fight for the $1 million in a live bout on May 24 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. With the win, Brinkley advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition.

Fourteen of the 16 fighters still remain in the competition, including Reno's Joey Gilbert, who has yet to fight. The series continues at 8 p.m. Sunday on NBC.
