Carson City parks and recreation commissioners today will pick five priority projects to be funded through the city's five-year capital improvement plan.

Commissioners will choose from a long list. Among them: building a west-side parking lot for the Carson City Community Center, repairing the Ross Gold tennis courts and installing an announcers booth at the Fuji Park Fairgrounds.

A new parking lot carries a price tag of $766,586; tennis court repairs would cost $30,000; and an announcers booth comes in at $159,076.

Minden resident Liz Neumann, 64, who comes to Carson City to play tennis one to five times a week, would love to see improvements made to the Ross Gold courts.

"The courts are cracked from the weather," Neumann said. "We could also use more courts. They get really busy in the summer."

Each year the commission reviews and updates its five-year plan, making adjustments as needed.

Other items on the agenda include deciding on a new budget for the Parks and Recreation Department for the 2005-2006 fiscal year.

The commission will meet today at 5:30 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.
