Neddenriep, Carson girls take first

Kristin Neddenriep and the Carson High girls cross country team turned in an impressive effort in a four-way meet on Wednesday on the Western Nevada Community College course.

Neddenriep was the overall champion and Carson also took first as a team in a meet with South Tahoe, Reed and Wooster. Carson won with 39 points and was followed by South Tahoe (47), Reed (48) and Wooster (70).

In the boys meet, South Tahoe won with 33 points and was followed by Reed (47), Wooster (62) and Carson (80). In the boys race, Carson ran without its top seven runners and in the girls race, the Senators ran without their top two runners in Annie Brinson and Christy Works.

Many of Carson's top runners are preparing for a major meet on Saturday at the Stanford Invitational. "We try to keep them fresh for Stanford," Carson coach Dennis Brinson said.

It was still an impressive win for Carson over South Tahoe in a meeting of two of Northern Nevada's top teams. Brinson, though, noted that South Tahoe also wasn't at full strength. "But any time you beat South Tahoe, that's good," he said.

Coach Brinson said he'll have a better picture of where his team stands at the Carson Invitational on Oct. 8. "It will be a good measuring of what might happen at regionals," he said.

Neddenriep won in 22 minutes, 40 seconds. She was followed by Megan Myer (fifth, 23:44), Andrea Kierstead (sixth, 24:18), Sinead McSweeney (13th, 28:26) and Tiffany Halen (14th, 28:53).

For Carson's boys, Tyler Bourns was 10th (20:48), Ahron Osheroff took 16th (21:41), Greg Saunders placed 17th (21:45), Stephen Maples was 18th (21:50), Tyler Davies was 19th (21:58), Scott Wandel took 23rd (23:15) and Michael Gallager was 32nd (27:01).
