Galena boys tennis wins title

The Galena High boys tennis team left no doubt who was the best club in Northern Nevada.


Galena routed Reno 32-13 on Friday in the NIAA Northern 4A Championships. Both teams advance to next week's NIAA 4A State Championships.


The Grizzlies took a 13-2 lead after the first round when Chris Scwartz and Wes Reimer, Kevin Sawyer and Matt Archer and Ben Lundahl and J.B. Shrestha swept in doubles, all by 6-3 scores. In singles, Collin Davis won 6-0 and Gavin Deller won 6-2.


The only loss in the first round came when Abe Rubenstein lost 6-7. Rubenstein came back to win 6-2 in the second round while Davis won 6-4 and Deller won 6-0. Rubenstein won his other match 6-2 and Davis ended up sweeping with a 6-1 win in his final match.


Schwartz and Reimer ended up sweeping in doubles as they also won 6-2, 6-1. Archer and Sawyer also won 6-4.


Reno's girls won the Northern 4A title by beating Galena 25-20. Both teams also advanced to the state tournament.
