Vita Sloan, 85, a Douglas County resident for the past 20 years, died June 9, 2004, at Washoe Medical Center. She was born Feb. 5, 1919, to Giuseppi "Joseph" and Leonarda Maggio Adamo in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Before moving to Douglas County, she lived in the San Fernando Valley in California.
She met her husband, William Sloan, while working at Lockheed Corp. in Burbank, Calif., during World War II. She was the only female inspector at Lockheed, working on aircraft including P38s and B-25 bombers.
Mrs. Sloan was a founding member of the Carson Valley Quilt Guild and served in various chairships. She wrote a column, "Quilters Corner," for the Record-Courier. She was a Worthy Matron of the San Fernando Chapter 398 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Daughters of the Nile.
She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Carol Benson.
Among her survivors are her daughter and son-in-law Lenore and Ronald Strong; daughter Mary Sloan; son-in-law Ronald Benson; sister, Mary Clugston of New York; brother, Angelo Adamo of Arizona; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at a later date.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
