Silver State Gymnastics strong in meet

Fourteen-year-old Brooke Conway was among the leaders for the Silver State Gymnastics Club during its Sweethearts Meet this past weekend.


More than 130 area gymnasts competed in the meet held at Silver State Gymnastics in Carson City.


In her first year at level 7, Conway won the all-around title with a 33.925 all-around score. She placed first in three of four events.


At level 6, 11 and up, Jessica Brazeau won the all-around title with an excellent 36.3 score. She placed second in the vault with a 9.2, third in uneven bars with a 9.0 and third in balance beam with a 9.150. She won the floor exercise with an 8.95.


Rachel Nietzke came in third in the all-around with a score of 35.05, taking a first place on bars with an outstanding 9.250 and third with her floor routine, scoring 8.350.


Danielle Nietzke came in seventh place in the all-around with a score of 33.75 and also had a third place finish on the vault with 9.050 and second in bars, scoring 9.05.


At level 6, 8-10 years, Kelsey Chicvara came in second in the all around with a total of 35.45. She scored second on the uneven bars with an 8.950, second on balance beam, scoring a 9.0 and had another second place finish with her floor routine, finishing with a 9.0.


Sarah Steele came in third all-around with a total score of 35.4. Some of Steele's scores included her first place finish on the vault with a score of 8.8, third place finish on uneven bars with 8.85 and third on floor with a score of 8.9.


At level 5, 10 and up, Alyssa Mesecher secured third place in the all-around competition with 34.9. Mesecher placed third on all her events, including a score of 8.9 from her floor routine. Samantha Cobb had a tough meet. She put a lot of effort into her program, but the competition was fierce. Cobb came in ninth in the all-around in her age group, scoring a 33.6. She had an outstanding vault, scoring 8.7. She came in fifth on the uneven bars with a 8.6 and held her cartwheel on the beam to take fourth with an 8.6.


At level 5, 7-9 years old, Nicole Updegrove made the top of the podium with an all-around score of 35.4. Updegrove placed first on the vault, scoring 8.9, fourth on the beam with an 8.8 and a great floor routine of 9.250 gave her the first place medal.


Kalie Parmenter followed Updegrove closely with an all-around score of 35.35 to take second. She placed second on the vault and uneven bars and finished off her day with a first on the balance beam with a 9.0.


Arel Getty scored in fourth place in the all-around with a 34.1. Getty took third in uneven bars with a score of 8.55 and third on the beam with a 9.0 score.


Amanda Brazeau came in sixth in the all-around with a 33.05. Her strongest events were the floor where she took fifth with a score of 8.8 and the uneven bars where she scored 8.55 and placed fourth.


Hannah Winder had a great floor routine with 8.5 and scored third with an 8.3 on her vault. Maddison Saarem scored ninth place on the floor with an 8.25 and had a 31.15 score in the all-around.


At level 4, 10 years and up, Danielle Moffitt scored sixth in the all-around with a total score of 33.9. she soared on her vault, taking the seventh place award with a 9.25. She took sixth place in uneven bars with a score of 8.3 and fifth on the floor routine with an 8.45.


Carley Allison came in at seventh place in the all-around with a score of 33.9. She was fourth in the uneven bars with 8.45, and placed sixth with a score of 8.2 on the floor.


Samantha Smith came in 9th place with a score of 32.2, scoring a 9.35 to take fifth in the vault, and placed fifth on the beam with a score of 8.4.
