All Ages Calendar of Events

Bummed that the Grandmaster Flash show at Caesar's Tahoe is 21 and over? Don't be. Be the star of your own show this weekend, and let this calendar of events serve as your to-do list. And if you know of something coming up you'd like to add, e-mail Maria Dal Pan at mdalpan@nevadaappeal.com

Today

-- Who says New Year's comes but once a year? Celebrate Chinese New Year from 1 to 3 p.m. at Gardnerville Elementary School, 111 Toler Ave., Gardnerville. The open-to-the-public event costs $4 ages 5-older, $2 seniors, children 4-younger free. Call 782-9828.

-- MTV figured out way back that nothing complements good music more than looking at something cool while listening to it. Watch outdoor photographer Mark Vollmer and singer/songwriter Jim Eaglesmith blend their talents at Western Heritage Interpretive Center at Bartley Ranch Regional Park, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road in Reno. Show starts at 7 p.m., and won't cost you a thing. Call 828-6612.

-- Steel Breeze brings their mix of cover music from bands such as Santana and U2 to The Upstage Center Theatre, 900 Mallory Way. Show time is at 9 p.m., and $10 will get you in the door.

-- Watch out. Voodoo Organist casts a musical spell at Ark-a'ik, 555 E. Fourth St. in Reno, at noon for $5. Or head back to Ark-a'ik at 8 p.m. for a double-play of bands featuring Subject of Us, also for $5.

Sunday

-- It never hurts to try. Proscenium Players Inc. holds open auditions for Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Nile" 2 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. Call 883-1976. Parts may require different accents, but that's the fun of acting, right?
