They are working on the roadway and shoulders, Monday through Friday, with traffic delays of up to 30 minutes. There is no road work on weekends. I understand that they will work until the first snowfall."

-- CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that trollers were doing well on both Saturday and Sunday with worms or Rapala lures. No mackinaw trout were caught but rainbows were taken, up to 18 inches.

East Carson: Low but fishable. A fly fisherman has been fishing with yellow Humpies and green Mosquito flies in the late afternoon after the sun goes down. He caught and released 7 average-szied rainbows the other afternoon.

West Carson: Extremely low and very quiet.

-- CONVICT LAKE, CALIF: Dave DeSurra of the Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260) reported: The top rainbows of the week were a 6.75 pound Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout on an olive Pistol Pete at the inlet, a 6.63 pounder on a black Pistol Pete at the inlet, a 6.40 on a nightcrawler on the south shore, a 6.27 on a Thomas Buoyant lure at the inlet, a 5.45 on a Rapala lure at the inlet and a 5.05 on a Trout Teaser on the south shore.

CONVICT CREEK: Best with Trout Teasers or worms at the inlet.

-- FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post (530-993-3683) at Chilcoot, Calif. reported: The fishing continues to be good. Cold nighttime temperatures have brought rainbows of all sizes in closer. As a result, bank fishing has been especially productive. Standard baits (nightcrawlers and/or Power Bait) have been especially productive. Turkey Point, Crystal Point and Lunker Point are good spots to try.

Trollers should use worms and flashers between the dam and the Narrows.

The fall colors are showing beautifully.

Anderson to Orland: The river is at 7,000 C.F.S. and fishing for king salmon is great. Seeing limits now. Average salmon are 20-35 pounds. Seeing some Kings up to 40 pounds. Using Flatfish lures, T-50's and bouncing roe. Salmon season is open until Jan. 14.

Redding to Anderson: Rainbow trout fishing is fair to good. Producing 10-20 trout. Using spinning gear with Flatfish lures or fly fishing with Glo/Bugs or Bead Heads. Also Nymphing with strike indicators.

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462): "My fishermen are catching limits of average sized Mackinaw trout with an occasional rainbow. I've been tagging and releasing most of the smaller ones. We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach. We are using Herring Dodger flasher blades with either live minnows or Apex lures.

Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): We've been trolling in front of Cal Nevada and Dollar Points at a depth of 100-190 feet. We're using Herring Dodger flasher blades with a live minnow for the best success."

LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: Gene St. Denis: We've been trolling in front of Camp Richardson with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows. Jigging has also been good with white Herring jigs tipped with a minnow.

LOWER TWIN LAKE: Steve Marti of the Twin Lakes Resort reported: Despite the snow and wind earlier this week, the weather has turned nice again and our Indian Summer is in full swing. With the windy weather earlier, the fishing was tough but is getting better as the weather had settled down. Weekly stocking of Calif. F&G stockers continue and we also had a nice Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout stock this past week. Jim Kirkpatrick of Ventura, Calif., landed a nice 5-pound, 14-ounce Alpers while trolling with a Hotshot lure, just up the lake from the jetty, by the cabins. That area has been productive all summer.

UPPER TWIN LAKE: No report.

-- WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort (775-758-6472) reported: It's down to 19-20 at night but back up to about 70 in the daytime. The fishing is good and the reservoir is low. You can still launch your boat from the shelf just south of the Native American boat dock. The trollers are using green Woolly Bugger flies or a green fly with a red head to catch rainbows, up to 20 inches. The shore fishing is good with rainbow Power Bait or nightcrawlers. The perch are hitting on white jigs with a small piece of worm on the hook. The deer hunting up here has been slow. We've had four deer hanging here and another three that came through. Nothing big. The hunters are reporting very few deer and they are scattered and very spooky.
