Former Galena High standout Kellie Burton has transferred from Arizona to the University of Nevada and will play for the Wolf Pack volleyball team this season.
"I'm very excited to have Kellie back here in Reno," Nevada coach Devin Scruggs said. "She brings height and athleticism to our program. In addition, she is an extremely versatile player who will give us many options."
Burton played her freshman season for an Arizona team last year that advanced to the NCAA Final Four, seeing limited action. She's a versatile player who has the ability to play outside, middle or rightside hitter.
At Galena, Burton was a standout in volleyball and basketball, serving as team captain in both sports during her senior season. Volleyball Magazine rated her 24th in its Fab 50 for 2000 and she was also a Junior Olympic team qualifier in 2000.
She averaged 4.8 kills, 3.6 digs and 1.5 blocks per game as a senior at Galena, earning all-region first team honors. USA Today chose her as the Nevada Player of the Year in basketball after her senior season. She earned first team all-state honors in basketball.
As a junior, she earned first team all-state honors in basketball and second team all-region honors in volleyball. She maintained a 4.0 grade point average at Galena and was named to the all-state academic team in volleyball and basketball as a sophomore, junior and senior. As a freshman at Arizona, Burton maintained a 3.82 G.P.A. and made the Dean's List.
Burton played the 1998 and 2000 club seasons with Sierra Nevada Club and in 1999 with the Northern Nevada Junior Volleyball Club.
