Silver State Volleyball takes ninth in Crossroads

The Silver State Volleyball Club's 17 and under gold team settled for ninth place out of 40 clubs at the Crossroads Tournament held this past weekend in Kansas City, Mo.

"It was the strongest tournament out of all the qualifiers," said Silver State coach Steve George, commenting on the qualifying tournaments for this summer's National Junior Olympics in Salt Lake City.

"We never got in sync," said George about the Crossroads event. "We didn't have a strong tournament, but yet we still did finish in ninth place."

Silver State will still have one more chance to qualify for the Junior Olympics when it plays Friday through Sunday in the Far Western Tournament in Sacramento.

With a top four finish, Silver State should receive an automatic bid to the Junior Olympics. But the team is also in line for one of five at-large berths to the Junior Olympics.

"Right now we have a good shot at one," George said. "Right now, I'd say we're in pretty good position there."

George said with a top seven finish this weekend, "We'll probably get one of the bids."

Members of the team are Carson City's Rachael DeRiemer and Shannon Devereaux, Fallon's Tristin Adams and Carly Sorensen, Douglas High's Brittany Addeo and Emily Haas, Galena's Joanna Hixon and North Tahoe's Teal Ericson.
