Carson's Carter places at Stanford

Carter got off a heave of 53-feet, 8-1/2 to trail only Jon Howard from Arroyo Grande High in Southern California. Howard, one of four preps to have thrown 60 feet in California so far this season, won the event at 57-9-3/4 at Cobb Track & Angell Field.


Carter also placed 10th in the discus at 156-3.


Galena produced top-five finishes in the boys 400-meter intermediate hurdles and high jump. Barrett Young placed third in the hurdles with a time of 55.37, while Justin Houk cleared 6-6 in the high jump to place fourth and Nate Meckley took fifth.


Another highlight for Carson was George Pincock, who ran 49.69 to place eighth overall in the boys 400-meter dash. Pincock was also part of a Carson 4x400 relay team that finished 15th in a season-best time of 3:27.05.


Carson's Cassia Roth finished eighth in a talented girls 3,000 as she ran a personal record time of 10:10.83. Roth finished just two-tenths of a second behind Reno's Collier Lawrence, the Northern 4A cross country champion last fall. The race was won in 9:38.41 by Shannon Rowbury of Sacred Heart Cathedral, who has already signed with Duke.


Shanna Sparks finished 13th in the girls mile run with a time of 5:10.14 and also finished 12th in the 3,000 in 10:19.25.


Mackenzie Taylor was 17th in the girls shot put with a throw of 34-3-1/2.
