Pop Warner: Douglas blanks Reno

DOUGLAS WHITE TIGERS 13, RENO VIKINGS 0

It was smash-mouth football at its best Friday night as the Douglas White Tigers dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball on their way to a 13-0 shutout victory over the Reno Vikings to claim the Sagebrush Empire Snow Bowl Championship in the junior midget division.

The White Tigers' defense held the Vikings to four first downs and 91 total yards while posting its sixth shutout of the season. The Tigers have given up only 26 points in nine games.

Tiger pass defenders intercepted four passes, two by Drew Dorsey, while Spike Agosta and Justin Deeter grabbed one each.

Derek Shoaf, Kyle Luken, Ross Tinseth, Darren Brady and Corey Hartzell stuffed the Vikings' running game all night behind the outstanding defensive line play of Koa Schrum, Corey Fry, Matt McClintock and Joe Hodge.

Justin Perkins had a quarterback sack and Justin Rickey kept additional pressure on the Vikings backfield the entire game.

On their first offensive possession of the game, Tigers running back Brian Miller busted loose for a 38-yard touchdown run behind Scott Linke, Sean Ivie and Chris Platt. This trio of blockers would open the majority of the holes that enabled runnning backs Keenan Copp, Daniel Boucher and Miller to gain 254 yards rushing.

Late in the second quarter, Miller scored again on a 1-yard run to cap off a seven-play, 55-yard drive to give the Tigers a 13-0 lead. Once again Platt and Ivie, along with Sean Mitchell and Joe Phillips, blasted the Viking defenders out of the way for the score.

Nolan Brockage, Chris Erardy, Nick Allan, Brian Brady, Cameron Cook and quarterback Pat Sergott contributed timely and effective blocking throughout the game.

Neither team scored in the second half, but the Tigers' defense picked off three passes to stop the Vikings cold.

The White Tigers offense sustained drives of 9 and 13 plays in the second half, grinding out 91 yards, to effectively eat up the clock and prevent any chance of a Vikings' comeback.

The White Tigers advance to the Pop Warner regional semifinals to be played this Saturday in Reno, at a time and field yet to be determined.
