Haymond "Van" Van Fleet, 77, a Minden resident for the past 22 years, died June 19, 2000. He was born July 6, 1922, in Bishop, Calif., to Haymond A. and Viola Mae Pierce Van Fleet.
He graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in agricultural business.
Before moving to Minden, he lived in Theba, Ariz.
Mr. Van Fleet worked as a ranch manager and managed the Dangberg Farms. He also managed the largest farm in Theba. He was always a cowboy at heart and spent many hours in the saddle caring for cattle herds. He loved fly fishing and fly tying and he was an avid hunter, carving his own gun stocks. He was a devoted father and husband.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from November 1942 to January 1967. He was a jet fighter pilot flying F-104s and a radar base commander. He flew recon during World War II and was also a veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Van Fleet, Dec. 26, 1999.
Among his survivors are his daughter and husband Sharon and Chris Tolando; of Huntington Beach, Calif., brothers Robert and Eddie, both of Greenville, Calif.; sisters Margaret Kampschmidt and Mary Lou Ebersol, both of Greenville, and two grandchildren.
No service is scheduled at this time.
Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.
Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
