Nevada consumer advocate named national group president

Nevada's Consumer Advocate has been re-elected president of the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates.

Fred Schmidt, chief deputy of the attorney general's Bureau of Consumer Protection, has also served as the group's vice president and chairman of the electricity committee.

The association is a national group with 44 member offices in 39 states and the District of Columbia representing American consumers in dealings with regulation of gas, phone, electric and water utilities.

"The organization has significant influence in national public policymaking through testimony members provide at congressional hearings and before federal regulatory agencies," said Schmidt.
