Hospital board holds second 'town hall' meeting

In an effort to keep the community informed about the ongoing hospital affiliation process, the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Board of Trustees will present the second of three "town hall" meetings at 5 p.m. Thursday in Carson City Community Center's Sierra Room.

The hospital solicited proposals last month and is now reviewing seven letters of interest. Officials hope to develop a long-term relationship with a partner such as another hospital or health-care network.

Affiliation could involve a joint venture, lease, management contract, or partial sale. Selling the whole hospital, administrators say, is the least likely option.

Maintaining community control, employee security and financial viability are listed as top priorities.

It is hoped affiliation will allow Carson-Tahoe Hospital to bring new services and technology to the community more efficiently and economically as it lowers medical care costs and expands the hospital's geographic reach.

The process could take two years.

Other business under consideration:

-Discussion and action of a $30,000 contract with Jerold Panas, Linzy & Partners to provide consulting services to assess the feasibility of a capital campaign for the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Foundation.

-Discussion and possible action on approving the Cancer Center as the first fund raising project for the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Foundation. Cost of the Center is estimated at $20 million.

-Discussion and action on financing for the acquisition of equipment, and remodeling of the cardiac catheterization lab. Cost of the project is estimated at $2.1 million.
