Carson golfers second in Northern 4A match

WASHOE VALLEY - A blanket could have been thrown over the team leaders when the Northern 4A boys golf tour resumed Monday afternoon at Thunder Canyon Country Club.

Four teams were separated by a mere seven strokes on a warm and sunny day, and when the numbers were all tallied, Carson High School stood second with a 404 total in the third conference match of the season.

Lowry picked up its first victory, shooting 399, followed by Carson, while Reno (405) edged Galena (406) by one stroke for third. Elko (410), McQueen (411) and Reed (415) also finished with the lead pack.

"A lot of teams are real close; it's going to be an interesting zone," Carson coach Paul Croghan said. "Lowry has really come on the last couple of weeks. That's going to be a team to watch out for."

The top eight teams in the conference regular season qualify for the Northern 4A zone tournament on May 9 in Elko.

Galena's Bryson Young shot 1-over par 73 to earn medalist honors.

Carson was led by Toby Steele's 77, while Josh Bratzler shot 78 from the Senators' No. 5 spot in the lineup. John Chirilla shot 80, Justin Bryant 83, Nick Carlson 86 and Nick Zappin 86 to round out Carson's scoring.

The Senators play again this Friday and Saturday at the Joe Berry Junior Masters in Sacramento.
