Zephyr Cove man held in DUI with injury

STATELINE -A 40-year-old Zephyr Cove man is being held in lieu of $25,155 bail on felony charges that he was driving under the influence when he lost control of his car Aug. 29 and rolled it down an embankment off Highway 50.

Gerald Robert Frye was arrested Wednesday after his release from Washoe Medical Center. His passenger, Jamie Sue Johnson, 42, also of Zephyr Cove, is still in the intensive care unit in serious condition.

Douglas County prosecutors said they are waiting for results of Frye's blood draw, but he was arrested on the basis of a preliminary breath test that placed him over the legal limit. Frye is charged with a class B felony of driving under the influence and causing substantial bodily harm. If convicted Frye faces a minimum of two years and a maximum of 20 years in prison.

Frye was driving west on Highway 50 about a mile east of Cave Rock when he entered the right emergency lane, overcorrected, and lost control of the car. The car rolled 100 feet down an embankment and settled on the driver's side. Neither Frye nor Johnson were wearing seat belts, according to Nevada Highway Patrol investigators, and both were ejected during the crash.

Frye was being held in the Douglas County Jail in Minden.
