Katie Peters earned a gold medal in floor exercise to help Silver State Gymnastics bring home the Level 4 second-place team trophy from the Women's Gymnastics 2000 Nevada Games held this past Saturday in Reno.
Peters posted a score of 9.1 to win the Level 4 floor exercise and finished fourth in the all-around for Silver State during competition held at Gym Nevada. Jessica Brazeau also earned a silver medal on the Level 4 uneven parallel bars with an 8.3 score and finished fifth all-around. Kristin Dockery was a bronze medalist on the balance beam with an 8.5 score.
Silver State also captured the Level 5 third-place team trophy behind a contingent of four athletes.
Brooke Conway finished fifth in the all-around and Nicole Snyder's 8.85 score on the beam was good for a silver medal. Danielle Neitzke was a bronze medal recipient on the bars with a 9.1 score, while her twin sister, Rachel Neitzke, was fourth at 9.0.
A total of 112 athletes, representing 11 clubs from Nevada and California, competed in the first meet of the fall season.
"This was our first meet and the kids were all excited," Marcee Lester of Silver State Gymnastics said. "They've been watching it (gymnastics at the Olympics) on TV so they were all motivated to get out and compete."
Next on the schedule, RAC Gymnastics of Carson City will host its inaugural Autumn Extreme Invitational on Saturday. Competition is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. in Carson High School's Morse Burley Gymnasium.
