Game Summary and Key Offensive Statistics

The Carson Senators were shutout by the Reno Raiders, 12-0, in a matchup of the Sagebrush Empire League Pop Warner junior midget division's third- and fourth-place teams Friday night at Mira Loma Field in Reno.

The Raiders moved ahead quickly on a 65-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage. The stunned Senators defense came back to stop the Raiders on the extra point attempt and then went on to hold the Reno team scoreless until late in the fourth quarter.

The Senators offense played most of the first half in Reno territory, but turnovers and untimely penalties kept the Senators off the scoreboard. Second half action was a see-saw battle of the defenses with the Senators clearly in the game until a late fourth quarter rushing score sealed the victory for the Raiders.

The Senators finished their season with a 3-5 record.

The Senators rushed for only 41 yards on 26 carries and no scores. Fullback Shawn Staggs rushed for 27 yards on 10 carries, while halfback Jack Jacquet added 11 yards on 10 carries. Rushing totals were rounded out by Jonas Schenzel with two yards on three carries and quarterback Nick Bacon with one yard on three carries.

The Senators had some success with their passing game, racking up 61 yards on seven completions from quarterback Nick Bacon. Jacquet had four catches for 30 yards, Schenzel one catch for 20 yards and Daniel Schierholt two catches for 11 yards.

Key Defensive Players, Highlights

turnover count, each coming up with four turnovers on fumble recoveries.

Stepping into starting defensive positions, Sean Hall, Jeremy Gray, Heath Medeiras and Mitch Grover performed well, each coming up with key plays.

Grover kept the Senators alive in the first half recovering two fumbles and making several key tackles while Hall gave the Senators one last possession in the fourth quarter with another timely fumble recovery. Gray thwarted the Raiders ' onside kick attempt to start the second half with a diving catch, giving the Senators good field position. Defensive leaders Jeremiah Schenzel and Jack Jacquet had big nights as well. Schenzel had five tackles and a fumble recovery in the second quarter while Jacquet finished the night with eight tackles and stuffed the Raiders on their last extra point attempt.
