Obituary: Robert G. Smith

A Mass of Christian burial for Robert G. Smith, 50, a Parishville, N.Y., resident, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Potsdam, N.Y., with Pastor John P. Kennehan celebrant.

Mr. Smith died Nov. 9, 2000, at his home as a result of a fire. He was born Feb. 2, 1950, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to William and Evelyn Olsen Smith.

His family lived in Carson City. He attended Carson City schools and graduated from Carson High School in 1968. After high school, he attended and graduated from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., in 1972. He was a star baseball pitcher at both Carson High and at Navy.

He married Pamela Collins Oct. 6, 1973, at St. Mary's Church, Pottsdam.

Mr. Smith worked as a stock broker for Dean Witter Reynolds in Reno for 13 years until he retired in 1980 and moved to Potsdam. He was active in many organizations and societies. He was a judge for the speech and debate team for Potsdam Central School for six years and he volunteered time at St. Mary's School. He was a fourth degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Mary's Church in Potsdam and the Kiwanis Club in Nevada.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1972-78. He served on the USS Fort Fischer.
