Nevada men to advise feds on wild horses, burros on public lands

ELY - Two Nevada men has been appointed to a national panel that will advise the federal government on the management and protection of wild horses and burros on public lands.

Brent Eldridge of Ely and Larry Johnson of Sparks are among nine people named Thursday to the Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board.

They were selected from more than 60 nominations to the panel which will offer advice to the Interior and Agriculture departments.

''Each of these individuals is highly qualified and represents a particular interest or discipline across the country,'' said Tom Fry, director of the Interior Department's Bureau of Land Management.

''I appreciate their interest in this important program and I look forward to their professional input,'' he said.

About half of the estimated 43,000 wild horses and burros in the United States are in Nevada.
