Snow paints Carson Country white

More snow is predicted for this week, but nothing that will "knock your pants off," a meteorologist said, blaming Monday morning's quick snowfall on a weak system that rolled through Western Nevada.

"We have possibly another weak system like this coming through Tuesday night. It should be the same sort of deal that we saw early (Monday) morning," said Stephen Adams of the National Weather Service. "I don't see it looking any worse than that."

An estimated half-inch of snow fell in Carson City starting about 7 a.m. Up to 2 inches of snow were reported in north Reno.

Area residents ventured out into snow-covered streets and tiny falling snowflakes despite forecasts of mixed clouds and sunshine.

By noon, the streets of the capital city were mostly bare and dry. Afternoon commuters had no restrictions from the snow.

"None of the coming storms look incredibly strong at this point, just these little, quick bursts of snow," Adams said.

As for a white Christmas, Adams said that forecast is reserved for closer to Dec. 25.

"If we stay in a cold somewhat moist pattern it's not out of the question for us," he said. "But it's too far out for us to say."

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Troy Lindley said no major accidents resulted from the weather.

Precipitation in November was up to .92 inches, double the average of .45 inches for the month.

However, even with a wet November, the total for the year is only 4.33 inches, well under half the annual average of 9.66 inches over the course of a year.

This winter's snowfall has raised Lake Tahoe 1.2 inches.
