Dayton scrimmage today

After practicing for two weeks, the Dayton High School football team will get a chance to test itself against some new faces today when the Dust Devils host Mineral County (Hawthorne) and Pershing County (Lovelock) in a preseason scrimmage.

The scrimmage is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start at Dayton. The three teams are former conference rivals, although Dayton now competes as a 3A school while Mineral and Pershing now play at the 2A level.

"This will be good. This will give us a chance to evaluate where we are at, and the kids are looking forward to seeing different color jerseys," Dayton coach Butch Cattanach said.

The scrimmage will give the Dust Devils a tune-up before their season opener at home against the Delta Saints from Clarksburg, Calif., next Friday night, Aug. 24.
