Greg Jackson was born in Sacramento, CA. At the age of two, he moved to Reno with his parents, Eric and Sylvia, where he spent his early years on their gentleman ranch. He loved horses and nature, especially the mountains, hiking, camping, skiing, rock hounding, generally finding the treasure in outdoor adventures with his good friends.
Greg graduated from Reno High School and subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from the University of Nevada at Reno. Following graduation, he volunteered for the Peace Corps spending two years in the Philippines, in service to others. Upon his return to Reno, Greg decided to change his first field of study and go into dentistry. This required additional courses in the medical field. He enrolled once more at UNR where he met Nancy Rey. They married on March 30, 1970. The couple moved to San Francisco where by then Greg was pursuing his studies in dentistry, earning his DDS at the University of California at San Francisco in 1972.
Having made the decision to return to Nevada, his home state, the couple lived temporarily on the James Canyon Ranch in Genoa while building the family home in Minden. Greg had previously met Dr. Gary B. Williams, a dentist practicing in Gardnerville, and together “Dr. Dub” and “Dr. J” opened the beautiful Sierra View Dental office. Greg and Nancy raised their two children, Carrie and Philippe, in Minden, neighbored by Greg’s life-long friends and fishing buddies, Jerome Etchegoyhen Sr. and Jim Stratton.
Greg, a very bright and curious man with a subtle, deadpan sense of humor, he often left you laughing long after hearing his comment. This gift undoubtedly helped with his game face at the pedro card table as with other less serious matters. A world traveler, gourmet cook, technophile and family man who never ceased his pursuit of knowledge, Greg loved life in the Carson Valley, most when fishing our local streams or trips east to Paradise Valley, the Ruby marshes with “the Whear clan” where he perfected his chef skills cooking for the friends there.
Greg was well loved and appreciated by many. He is missed, quietly remembered by friends, neighbors, fishermen, hunters, golfers, foodies, former patients and clients, business partners and local familiar faces, all practically family. He is especially remembered by his own close family, fortunate to surround him in his last days, enduring a metastasized cancer that medicine and treatments could no longer suppress.
Greg is survived by his wife Nancy, his children Carrie (Jeff) Johnson and Philipp (Lauren), and grandchildren Soma, Jax & Ines, his brother and sister-in-law, Henri and Monique Rey, niece Natalie Rey and nephew Randolph Rey.
