Timothy “Tim” Mark Rubald passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at his home in Carson City, Nevada. He was 66. Tim was born on May 16, 1957, in Phoenix, Arizona, the son of Terrance Timothy Rubald and Bette Jane Stansbury Rubald. He graduated from. Hulett High School in Hulett, Wyoming in 1975 and shortly thereafter attended the University of Wyoming on an academic scholarship.
He was a member of the Acacia Fraternity at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming, where he met his wife. Tim and Terry were married July 1, 1978, in Casper, Wyoming.
In 1981, Tim and Terry owned and operated a supper club and rv park, called “Mateo Village” in northeast Wyoming near Devil’s Tower National Monument. There he started his life-long association with Lions Clubs International in 1982, eventually becoming the District Governor of District 15-A in Wyoming in 1986-87; and Council Chairman in 1987-88. He was also a founding member and president of Devils Tower Tourism Association and a commissioner on the Wyoming Travel Commission.
In 1989, Tim was offered the opportunity to develop and manage the Main Street Program for the Laramie Downtown Development Authority in Laramie, Wyoming. In 1997, the family moved to Carson City, Nevada where Tim worked as Director of Business Development for the Nevada Commission on Economic Development. In 2005, he became the Executive Director for the Commission. He left the Commission to start his own economic development consulting firm in 2007.
In 2011, he was offered the opportunity to revitalize the Conservation District program in the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and became the program manager. He went on to be the first program manager for the newly created Sagebrush Ecosystem program and for a while led both Programs at the same time. In 2017, he was the Nevada Section president of the Society for Range Management. He retired in June 2017.
He proceeded to devote all his considerable energies to the Carson City Host Lions Club and to District 46, Nevada-California, of Lions Clubs International. The Lions International motto of “We Serve” was one of Tim’s core values.
He was steadfast in his devotion to his wife Terry of 45 years, and to his son Lawrence “Larry” Rubald, of Reno, both of whom survive him. He was a good friend and mentor to many.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be sent in Tim’s honor to the Lions District 46 Foundation, 302 Prestwick Court, Dayton, NV 89403. A memorial service for Tim will be held at Walton’s Funeral Home, 1281 North Roop Street, Carson City on Friday, March 8, at 2 p.m. A reception follows at Silver Oak Golf Course from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
