Jeffery Allan Hiller

September 9, 1950 - September 7,2023

Jeffery Allan Hiller passed away from COVID-19 on Sept. 7, 2023, two days shy of his 73rd birthday. He was surrounded by family who thought it impossible to fell this man since he beat metastatic melanoma in 2009 and lymphoma in 2022.

Born Sept. 9, 1950, in Seattle, WA., Jeff graduated from Nathan Hale in 1968, traveled the world, and then met his future wife, Linda Lamb, at U.W. in 1975. After graduating, they honeymooned across the U.S. in a VW van Jeff customized to fit their tall frames, winding up in Las Vegas in 1978 where they started their family.

Jeff was a gifted teacher who achieved National Board Certification and high praise from administrators, parents, and always, kids. He taught 5th grade at Wengert Elementary in Las Vegas until 1993, when the family moved to Carson Valley. He then taught at Pleasant
Valley ES in Washoe County, running chess clubs, field trips and the popular “Mr. Hiller’s Science Camp.” Many times, former students would approach him to say he had changed their lives.

Jeff was an avid skier, hiker, chef, reader, gardener, juggler, willow furniture maker, swan diver and Tahoe Shakespeare volunteer. He loved tennis, film, boxing, art, the Wolf Pack, architecture, Motown, comedy, and SNL … a true Renaissance man. Most of all, Jeff loved his family. He gave wise advice, was always positive, and reminded us to live in the moment.

Jeff is survived by his wife Linda; son Blake; daughter Casey Brounstein (Jason); grandchildren Kylie and Jaxon Hiller; Piper and Ryann Brounstein; brother Steve (Polly); sister Becky; plus, much extended family and many treasured friends.

An interstate celebration of life was held on Jeff’s birthday. In lieu of flowers, please donate
(check only) to the science program in Mr. Hiller’s memory at Pleasant Valley Elementary
School, 405 Surrey Dr., Reno, NV. 89521.
