David John “Dave” Von Derau, 59, of Woodfords, CA passed away at Renown Regional Medical Center on August 5, 2023, due to complications from sepsis.
Dave was born to David and Alyce Von Derau on September 20, 1963, and grew up in Florissant, MO.
After high school Dave drove his VW bug out to Sacramento, CA to visit relatives, eventually traveling up to the mountains. Dave arrived at Kirkwood Ski Resort in 1984 and lived there for 12 years. He worked at various jobs including lift mechanic, the powerhouse and especially
enjoyed grooming the ski runs. In 1996 Dave moved to South Lake Tahoe, and in 2004 to Woodfords, CA.
Dave was an avid skier and mountain bike rider. He was very creative and knowledgeable. He knew how to fix just about anything, and if he didn’t know how, he’d figure it out. Dave loved meeting people and engaging in conversation.
Dave will be deeply missed by his beloved partner of 29 years Carol Carlson, his brother Christopher Von Derau, sister Susan Cornelius, and mother Alyce.
