Jerry G. Olson peacefully lost his battle to cancer on January 26, 2023 at 2:00 a.m. with his loving wife by his side.
Jerry was born to Karl and Patricia (Maltby) Olson on December 15, 1956 in Walnut Creek, California. He graduated from Douglas High School in 1974 and immediately entered the U.S. Navy where he served four years. Following his departure from the navy, he returned to Douglas County where he worked in the construction industry.
Jerry’s move to Smith Valley in 2000 brought him to the love of his life, Leslie (MacMannus) Olson. They were married on June 7, 2003 and together built a very successful construction business. His building talents brought many new comers to Smith Valley for their forever dream homes.
Jerry was very much an outdoor guy. His hobbies included golf, taking long walks with his hunting dogs early every morning, and enjoying the warm sunshine. Most of all, Jerry was an avid chukar, pheasant, and duck hunter and did most of his hunting in Gerlach where he also made very special long lasting friends.
Jerry is predeceased by his father, Karl Olson and his brother, Terry Olson.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie Olson; mother, Patricia Olson; brother, Cary Olson; sister-in-law, Nonie Olson; daughter, Teal Olson; grandson, Jeremy Olson; and nephews, Erik and Keith Olson and their families.
A memorial for Jerry will be held later this spring with the date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a favorite charity of choice
