Ted Truman Goodson, 81, passed away on July 1, 2022. Ted was born on November 20, 1940 in Ward, West Virginia, before moving to Washington State after his father was injured in the coal mines and retrained as a machinist during WWII. Ted was named after an uncle who died from being shot down as a gunner pilot during WWII. At the young age of 15, Ted was introduced to a city girl from Portland who many years later would become his bride, Vicky Ann. Keen to serve his country, Ted enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 with his patriotic dreams and hopes of learning life skills that would transcend his modest country upbringing and establish him in the modern world. In the Army, Ted became a Nike radar specialist. Upon leaving the Army, Ted married Vicky and they started a new life in Redondo Beach, California where they both worked in the then-burgeoning aerospace industry. In particular, Ted managed computer rooms dedicated to those missions. They later moved to Huntington Beach, lived the California dream until 1979 when they moved to Carson City, Nevada. There they raised their children and had dedicated careers in public service. Ted was the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for the Nevada Legislature, and the public can credit Ted and his “A-Team” with the beautiful legislative grounds you still see and experience today.
Ted was a loving, supportive and remarkable father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is reunited with his bride, Vicky, who died in 2007, and survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Renee and John Olson and Yvonne and Alex Nevarez, his granddaughter, Emma Olson, and many other family members and friends. Ted will be forever remembered for his infectious smile and laugh, and for being the consummate chivalrous gentleman while simultaneously championing the empowerment and education of women, especially his (grand) daughters.
Ted’s life and military service will be honored on July 22, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. at the Northern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada.
