Sheriff identifies Gardnerville Ranchos resident found deceased

A Gardnerville Ranchos woman found unconscious lying by the side of Arrowhead Drive on Tuesday morning was pronounced dead, Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley said.

Terry Buchanan, 67, was found near her home in the 900 block of the street.

“A cause of death will not be known until an autopsy is completed by the Washoe County Medical Examiner, but foul play is not believed to be involved at this time,” Coverley said.

Buchanan has lived in Douglas County for more than 35 years according to Douglas County Recorder’s documents. She lived at the Arrowhead address since just after the turn of the century.

The Sheriff’s Office issued a note on social media around 8:30 a.m. indicating that an investigation was underway. Unattended deaths in Nevada are treated as homicides and require an investigator and deputy coroner.
