Genoa, Nev. — County commissioners voted 3-2 to leave the vacation home rental ordinance alone for the time being. Between the petition drive and a newly filed lawsuit the issue is going to get plenty of attention during 2024.

Congratulations to new Planning Commissioner Laurie Lile, Audit Committee Member Allison Baumann and Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife member Gerrit Buma all of whom were appointed on Thursday. A question about the precise nature of the Airport Advisory Committee seat delayed that appointment.

Commissioners approved the comprehensive trails plan on Thursday after hearing a presentation on it and the V&T trail effort. That proposal seeks to follow the route of the old Virginia & Truckee across the Carson River and south into Minden.

The traffic cameras at NVroads.com are dead as a doornail this morning. There aren’t any road controls to speak of, so that’s the good news. Also Highway 95 south of Tonopah has reopened, so whatever was going on down there has concluded, presumably.

Starting Saturday, there could be as much as a half-inch of rain in Minden over the next few days. The winter weather advisory is back up for the east slope of the Sierra from Truckee south, while there’s a winter storm watch on the west slope. It sounds like there may be some Sierra cement arriving up top.

The forecast calls for another mostly cloudy day with the high near 52 and a south breeze 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain begins after 10 p.m. with the snow level at 6,900 feet.
