Genoa, Nev. — After hours of wrangling, Douglas County commissioners decided 3-2 to approve the ordinance before them. Additional revisions sought in the regulations will go back to the VHR advisory committee, which has until around October to work on them.

Expect some traffic today south of Gardnerville as the BackCountry Festival participants roll onto the Corley Ranch. It’s going to be a busy weekend with Rappin’ to Minden and the Northern Nevada’s Early Day Gas Engine & Tractor Club at the Fairgrounds.

Douglas High School’s FFA students will be kicking off three days of plant sales on Saturday. If you’re looking for a guide to this weekend’s events, pick up a copy of The R-C, only a buck.

With temperatures in the low 80s this weekend, expect the river to rise a bit as snow in the mountains continues to melt. There’s still 49.3 inches of water in the snowpack at Ebbetts Pass and more than 6 feet of snow. It’s down to around 4 feet of snow at Carson Pass.

The East Fork is predicted to hit 13.6 feet, or 4,800 cubic feet per second, at 5 a.m. Monday. The West Fork should also hit 13.6 feet 4 a.m. Sunday, which amounts to 1,210 cubic feet per second.

Sunny skies and a high temperature of 78 degrees are forecast for today, warming up to 81 on Saturday. The wind will be out of the west at 10-15 mph.
