The Douglas County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse will be making a July Fourth ride in honor of member and Genoa resident Tom Stone, who died of a heart attack after completing the 2020 ride.

The Posse is scheduled to begin 9 a.m. Tuesday at Minden Park and go down County Road, according to Stone's spouse, Henri.

During the coronavirus lockdown, Stone led more than a dozen horseback riders from the Mounted Posse on a July 4th ride. Carrying American flags, Blue Line flags supporting law enforcement, and red, white and blue streamers they rode through the middle of town as thousands smiled, honked and waved their support.

Stone, 67, died that day with his wife of 47 years there with him. A former Eagle County, Colo., commissioner, Stone served as deputy director of Nevada Rural Housing Authority.
