Former East Fork Constable Paul Gilbert was officially sworn in as East Fork Justice of the Peace on Monday.

Gilbert resigned as the last constable in Douglas County effective Friday after county commissioners appointed him to finish East Fork Justice of the Peace Cassandra Jones’ term.

“In a modest ceremony fitting the man himself, Paul Gilbert was sworn in as East Fork Justice of Peace,” former East Fork Justices Tom Perkins said.

Before the swearing-in, District Attorney Mark Jackson presented a plaque approved by commissioners last week in appreciation of Gilbert’s 40 years of service as constable.

Federal District Judge Howard McKibben talked about Gilbert’s service and character.

District Judge Tod Young administered the oath of office and invested Gilbert with a judicial robe.
