Vehicle fire closes Kingsbury Grade

A vehicle fire that spread to the wildland closed Kingsbury Grade about halfway up the Carson Valley side on Saturday morning

Firefighters respond to a vehicle fire that closed Kingsbury Grade on Saturday morning.

Both East Fork and Tahoe Douglas firefighters responded to the 9:50 a.m. report.

The truck was involved in a collision that ignited the blaze, which sent a black plume into the air visible from around the Valley.

The truck, a trailer and equipment it was hauling, were fully engulfed in flame when firefighters arrived on scene.

Witnesses said they found the semi-truck and trailer were involved in a traffic accident, and the driver was injured.  First firefighters on scene found the truck almost fully involved with the fire spreading the surrounding brush, Battalion Chief Scott Fraser said.

The fire was knocked down in approximately 30 minutes.  Two Engines, three brush trucks, two water tenders and four command officers responded. Kingsbury Grade at Tramway and Foothill Lane was closed for an extended period of time due to fire activity.

The driver of the truck was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center.
