Volleyball: Tigers knock off Mustangs in four games, Sierra Lutheran beats Excel Christian
The Douglas volleyball team knocked off Damonte Ranch in four games on senior night Thursday in Minden. The Tigers won 25-10, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-22.
Douglas was led by seniors Amanda Wartgow and Savannah Wood, who each had 10 kills; Wood added three blocks; senior Heidi Schefcik had 20 digs; Shawnee McFadden added seven digs; senior Hailey Sclafani added 30 assists and seven aces.
Katie McCullough had six kills, Jenna Broussard added four, senior Cassi Uhart had three and Ariah Barth and Schefcik each had two.
Shelby VanWinkle had three assists as well.
Douglas improved to 10-16 overall and 7-9 in league. The win marked the third time Douglas avenged an earlier loss to a Sierra League opponent this season. The other two came against Carson and Galena, both of whom qualified for the playoffs at higher seeds than Douglas.
The Tigers will travel to High Desert League champ Reno for the first round of the regional playoffs Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The Sierra Lutheran volleyball team swept Excel Christian 25-13, 25-9 and 25-21. Tiffany Patrick nine aces, two kills and 23 assists and Hannah Ediss had an ace, 10 kills and two assists.
SLHS is second in league and will play at 4:40 p.m. Friday at Wooster against the 1A East team.
The JV team won in three games, the scores were 22-25, 25-16 and 15-11. Emily Fernandez had 11 aces, eight kills and block; Amy Westre had an ace, eight kills and a block; Katy Cobb had an ace, a kill and 20 assists; Natalie Echeverria had an ace, a block and 16 assists.
Douglas defeated Damonte 25-8, 25-16 getting a solid all-around team effort.
The Tigers wrapped up the year 23-6 overall.
Douglas fell to Damonte Ranch 25-21, 25-19. The Tigers wrapped up the year 14-3 while winning a pair of tournaments.
