Valenzuela, Murray shine for Muckdogs baseball

Staff Reports

Tanner Valenzuela and Blake Murray continued their successful summer baseball season and contributed to wins on two different days this past weekend for the Reno Muckdogs 19U squad.

Valenzuela, a recent Douglas High School graduate, picked up a save on Friday afternoon for the Muckdogs in their 5-1 victory against Bill Davis Collegiate at Golden Eagle Regional Park in Sparks.

Valenzuela pitched 2-1/3 innings to close out the win. The left-hander allowed one hit without walking anyone.

His earned run average for the summer is under 3.00 while pitching exclusively out of the bullpen in a setup/closer type of role.

Murray, a senior-to-be at Douglas, delivered a two-out, two-run double on Sunday that lifted the Muckdogs to a 3-1 win over Thundersox Baseball at Golden Eagle Regional Park.

Murray is batting .400 so far during the summer season.

The Muckdogs came out of their weekend series with a 14-5 record.
