Tigers win team title at Tah-Neva tourney

Middle school wrestlers from Carson Valley and Pau-Wa-Lu combined on Saturday to provide some big highlights for their hometown fans Saturday.
Team Douglas — a feeder program for Douglas High School wrestling — won the overall team championship during the Tah-Neva League qualifier tournament held before a full house in the Carson Valley Middle School gym.
Twenty-nine of the team's 36 wrestlers earned medals for top-six finishes in their seventh and eighth grade weight classes. Of those medalists, 20 came away with top-four finishes and qualified for berths in the league championships this Saturday at Pershing County High School in Lovelock.
Thirteen of the Douglas wrestlers reached the championship round and four won gold medals: Caleb Lewis and Gabe Foster in their respective seventh grade 145- and 165-pound weight classes, in addition to Dominic Jackson and Max Smith in their respective eighth grade 95- and 115-pound weight classes.
Second-place medalists in the eighth grade division included Gabriel Deaton at 100 pounds and Yahir Pinea at 175 pounds. Second-place finishers in the sixth-seventh grade division were Riley Duran at 75 pounds, Romaine Smokey at 90 pounds, Stephen Baugh at 100 pounds, Jace Radelfinger at 105 pounds, Talin Goheen at 115 pounds and Eduardo Gutierrez at 125 pounds.
Third-place medalists in the eighth grade division included Treyton Ryan at 95 pounds, Haley Estabrook at 105 pounds and Steven Lyons at 110 pounds. The seventh grade third-place finishers were Cameron Daniels at 120 pounds and Fili Cebrero at 135 pounds.
