It was strictly a fun time Tuesday afternoon when Douglas High School alumni and present-day players took the field for the girls alumni soccer scrimmage.

For the record, no score was kept as a team of alums faced a mix of prospective Douglas varsity and junior varsity players on Keith Roman Field. Some of the alums have either played at the college level or will be playing this fall.

“We had a great time,” said Rick Smith, who is heading into his first season as head coach of the Douglas girls soccer program. “It’s always fun to have the alumni come back and show the girls that it is possible to play soccer after high school.”

The current Douglas players were split into two units in order to give everyone a chance to see action on the field.

The Douglas Tigers Youth Soccer Camp for youth 8 years of age through high school starts on Wednesday and will continue through Friday. Two sessions will be held each day at Douglas High, 8-12 year olds on the soccer field from 9 a.m.-noon, then 13-through-high school from 6-9 p.m. in the football stadium.

The fee is $75 for the younger age group, which includes a T-shirt and ball. The cost for participants in the older age group is $45.
