Tigers fall to Orem
After building a 29-18 lead through the first half, the Douglas boys’ basketball team surrendered 45 second-half points in losing to Orem, Utah 63-49 on the final day of the George Maldonado Classic at Galena High School Saturday.
Douglas had seven players put points on the board, three of whom were sophomores, in the loss. Junior center Keith Olson led the way with 14 points and sophomore Kevin Emm had a breakout of sorts with 10 points, including a 3-pointer.
Nate Whalin scored eight points, Jeff Nady and Mike Gransbery each added five, Jordan Hadlock had four and Joe Nady scored three.
Orem claimed the lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 22-7 out of the halftime break.
The game was the final tune-up before the opening of Sierra League play for Douglas. The Tigers take on Damonte Ranch Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Damonte Ranch.
After that, Douglas heads back out on the road for a tournament in Rancho Cordova, Calif., starting Dec. 28.
Douglas is 4-6 on the year, but has not yet lost to a Northern Nevada team.
