Tigers destroy Warriors
Any questions about whether the Douglas girls would play down to the level of the 2A Whittell Warriors on Friday in the DHS gym were answered in the first quarter.
The Tigers forced 10 turnovers on their way to a 21-1 lead after the first eight minutes, but managed to maintain their intensity throughout the game. They finished with a 19-0 fourth quarter run that closed out a 73-12 victory.
Lisa Doner led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points.
Amber Gwinn added a career-high 11 points. Gwinn said having the opportunity to play extended minutes helped her find her scoring groove.
“That’s what I think I needed,” she said. “I think now that I know the plays better, I’ll be able to get more playing time and make more shots.”
Mallory Moore and Julie Gingrich each finished with eight points, while Lindsey Rollins, Lindsay Knox and Renee Boucher chipped in with six points apiece.
Tracy Kizer, Andrea Honer and Gwinn each had four steals. Doner and Boucher led the Tigers with eight rebounds apiece.
The Tigers will open Sierra League play on Friday with a home game against the Reno Huskies at 5:15 p.m.
They’ll play a non-league game at McQueen on Saturday.
