Tigers compete in region finals

Here is a listing of Douglas athletes and the times of their events for the Northern 4A Track and Field Championships today and Saturday in Carson City.

The 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A divisions will all compete together in their respective finals both days at Carson High’s Jim Frank Track and Field Complex. The top three in each event move on to the state meet May 19-20 in Las Vegas.


3 p.m. — Boys triple jump: Sean Wolfkiel is the No. 3 qualifier at 41-4½ and Cade Pankey is No. 5 at 41-0.

4:45 p.m. — Boys 100: Dawson Coman has run a personal best 11.29. Note: Bobby Widmar of Reed is the defending champion and has run a state best 10.63 this season.

5:10 p.m. — Girls 4×200 relay: Douglas shares the fourth fastest qualifying time (1:49.20).

5:15 p.m. — Girls discus: Kindra Ruckman is the No. 4 qualifier at 108-6 and Meleeah McKown comes in at 95-8. Note: Douglas’ Jessica Waggoner set the meet record of 153-9 in 2009.

5:30 p.m. — Boys pole vault: Logan Kyle shares the leading qualifying spot at 12-6 and his season-best 14-6 is good for a share of No. 1 statewide, while teammate Samuel Brees qualified at 12-0 and has a season-best 13-0. Note: Watch out for Reed’s Dallas Moss, who has a best of 13-0 this season, but went 14-6 last year and is a three-time top-three region place finisher. McQueen’s Parker Nelson has gone 14-0.

6:20 p.m. — Boys 4×100: Douglas comes has the third best qualifying time (44.59), behind Damonte Ranch (42.45, No. 2 statewide) and Bishop Manogue (43.82).

5:50 p.m. — Girls 1,600 meters: Sophomore Maya Smith has qualified at 5:33.58. Note: The race for gold could develop between defending champion Abigail Pradere of Carson (qualified at 5:19.48), Samantha King-Shaw of Reed (5:20.06) and Bishop Manogue’s Hannah Covington (5:19.88).

6:45 p.m. — Girls 400 meters: Madi Smalley is the No. 3 qualifier at 1:01.11. Note: Spanish Springs senior Jessica Ozoude is the No. 1 qualifier as well as the defending region (57.04) and state champion (55.35).

8 p.m. — Girls 200 meters: Macey Weston and Madi Smalley have both qualified at 27.30.


10:10 a.m. — Boys 4×200 relay: Douglas is seeded No. 4 with its 1:32.71.

10:50 a.m. — Boys 1,600: John Munyan is the defending state champion and ran 4:20.66 for one mile at the Arcadia Invitational in early April. Note: Four runners have gone 4:20 or better this season — the fastest times statewide — led by defending region champion Anthony Ocegueda of Reed, Munyan plus McQueen’s Zachary Stallings and Henry Weisberg.

11:15 a.m. — Boys long jump: Cade Pankey is the No. 1 qualifier after his personal record 21-8 in the prelims last Saturday. Wolfkiel is the No. 4 qualifier at 21-3½. Note: Bishop Manogue sophomore Dontell Jackson ranks No. 8 statewide with his season best 22-3.

11:20 a.m. — Girls 4×100 relay: Douglas has qualified No. 7 at 53.53.

11:30 a.m. — Girls pole vault: Hunter Celio comes in as the co-No. 3 qualifier (10-0) and Corie Nalder at 8-6. Note: Reed senior Makayla Linebarger reigned as the region champion as a freshman in 2014, is a two-time state runner-up and has a state-best jump of 13-6 this season. Teammate Alysia Allen is No. 2 statewide with her best of 12-10.

11:45: a.m. — Boys 400: Luke Gansberg qualified at 55.16.

1 p.m. — Boys 200 meters: Coman qualified No. 6 at 23.23. Note: Widmar’s best of 21.81 ranks No. 2 in the state. Coman’s best is 22.98.

12:35 p.m. — Girls 800 meters: Smith is the No. 5 qualifier (2:26.86). Smith placed fifth at last year’s region meet.

1:50 p.m. — Girls 4×400 relay: Douglas has qualified No. 5 (4:19.10) and has a season best 4:14.91.
