Tiger volleyball reigns over SLT; advances to state title match
The Douglas High School volleyball team saved one of its most impressive matches of the 1998 season for when it needed it most. The Tigers defeated the South Tahoe Vikings 15-4, 15-3 Friday afternoon to advance to the state title match today at 2 p.m. at Galena High.
They will play the winner of this morning’s match between South Tahoe and the winner of the Friday night match between Green Valley and Bishop Gorman.
Douglas jumped to a 6-0 lead in the first game, and then methodically put away South Tahoe.
The Vikings responded in the second game by storming to a seeming insurmountable 10-1 lead, only to see the Tigers fight back. It took a combined 24 sideout, but Douglas was able to score the final 10 points of the game to close out the match.
Lulu Sewell, Natalie Stratton, and Rebecca Rippee all hit well for Douglas in the match.
Jessica Granat, J.K. Koenig, Darshaya Mustacchio and Linzy Doherty dominated at the net for the Tigers.
Crystal Soderman and Stratton, lead a superb defensive effort by the Tigers.
Senior setter Kaycee Green distributed the ball well and blocked and hit effectively when needed.
