Tiger softball stays hot at Las Vegas tourney

The Douglas varsity softball team continued on its hot streak this week, opening the Las Vegas Easter Bash Tournament with wins over two California teams.
Douglas beat Hilltop High School out of San Diego 7-0 and beat San Lorenzo Valley, Calif., 5-2.
The top two slots in the Tiger lineup produced five of its seven runs in the Hilltop game.
Leadoff batter Kaycee Wilcks went 1-for-1 with three runs scored and two stolen bases. In the No. 2 spot, Kristy Olsen went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. She also added a stolen base.
Brittany Puzey went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base and Kayla Dunn went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run in the bottom of the fifth innings.
Dunn picked up the win striking out eight and walking two, allowing two hits.

In the second game, Puzey struck out 11 and walked none, picking up both the win and the save.
Kellei Kizer relieved Puzey in the bottom of the sixth, striking out two and walking four. Puzey re-entered to close out the game.
Wilcks went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored, Valerie Smith went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Dunn added two more RBIs.
Jessie Kizer tripled and Olsen drove in another run.
Tuesday morning, Douglas narrowly lost to Oaks Christian, 1-0.
Dunn struck out two and walked none in taking the loss, while Puzey went 2-for-3 and Wilcks went 1-for-3 to account for all of Douglas’ offense.
The Tigers had won 11 straight since losing their opening three games of the season at the highly-competitive Best of the West tournament in Bullhead City, Ariz.
Douglas also swept a doubleheader from South Tahoe over the weekend, 11-1, 12-0. Douglas is now 11-4 overall and 6-0 in Sierra League play this season.
