Tiger skiers kick off season
The Douglas High School ski team opened its season last Thursday at Kirkwood in the first Tahoe Basin Ski League race of the year.
South Tahoe won the overall team race, followed by North Tahoe and Truckee with Douglas taking fourth.
Whittell, Carson and Incline rounded out the standings in order.
Leading the way for Douglas was Grant Dunkelman, taking fifth with a combined time of 62.59 seconds in the boys’ race.
Whittell’s Hughston Norton won the boys’ race with a time of 59.38.
Douglas’ Ryan Kochen finished 12th (64.42), Trent DeGiovanni was 31st (76.02) and Roy Reagan was 33rd (79.83). Logan Lalonde finished in 80.13, Sam Taylor finished in 81.28, Ben Meyer finished in 81.48 and Eric Kleiner finished in 81.63.
On the girls’ side, Tess Laub took 19th (78.37), Sam Crawford was 22nd (79.51), Kate Hill took 26th (83.76), Elissa Galvez took 27th (85.40), Kelsey Lalonde was 31st, Michelle Skilling took 33rd, Holland Chambers was 36th and Dakota Boisseau was 37th.
At the junior varsity level, Jon Pelcher took ninth in the boys’ race with a time of 77.31, Bradley Loshbough was 15th at 84.63, Jake Forvilly was 20th at 89.31 and Cole Pinther, Casey Shaffer, Logan Killian and Sam Wilson took 24th through 27th in order. Lindsey Adams took fifth on the girls’ side.
The next Tahoe Basin Ski League race is Jan. 23 at Heavenly. It will serve as Douglas’ home race this season.
