Tennis: Tigers take down Panthers
The Douglas girls’ tennis team picked up a crucial win over league foe North Valleys Tuesday afternoon to pick up a boost in the league standings.
The Tigers’ Melissa Oglesby and Nikki Villoria breezed through their six singles sets and Kristin Jarboe posted a 6-3 win on the singles side to lead Douglas to a 32-12 win.
Oglesby and Villoria made quick work of their opponents, losing just three games between them. Villoria only lost one game all afternoon. Cristina Milner and Patricia Salazar posted twin 6-0 victories on the doubles side.
Meghan Ezekiel and Lindsay Larkin put up a 6-0 win and the teams of Mandy Moore/Christina Wilson-Louch, Lena Ibadoul/Kristy Jilk and Sarah Barnhill/Lauren Seymour each had one win as well.
NORTH VALLEYS 15
Josh Sorich continued on tearing apart his competition this season with two wins Tuesday at North Valleys.
Sorich didn’t lose a single game in his two set wins while Cory Wilson won once and Matt McLaughlin and John McLaughlin each won once.
The doubles teams of Holden Sapp/Jeremy Henningsen, Gabe Grobben/Trevor Mitchell, and Matt Whipple and Sean Mitchell each won two sets to power the Tigers through the match.
Douglas is enjoying an impressive season, having won five of six matches. The only loss came against Carson when the Tigers were without two of their top players, Sorich and Grobben.
