Tennis: Locals compete in area tournaments

The last Northern Nevada Junior Satellite Tournament of 2010 was hosted recently by the Reno Tennis Center.

Madelyn Landerfelt, 11, competed in the girls 14 challenger division. In the second round, she upset the No. 2 seed, Jessica Cohen of Galena, 6-3, 6-4.

In the semifinals, she lost 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 to Reno’s McKenna LeVitt.

A steadily improving Cody Tindel, 15, won his first round match 6-2, 6-3 and lost the next 6-1, 6-4.

A week later, Landerfelt played the NorCal-sanctioned Tahoe Donner Challenger in Truckee and lost again to LeVitt, 6-3, 6-2 in the finals of the girls 12 division.

Sasha Edmunds, 12, lost a grueling 3.5-hour match to Ashley Pikero of Reno, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.

Matt Johnson, 15, won his first match in the boys’ 16s, 16-, 6-3, 6-3 and lost in the next, 6-4, 6-2.

Pat Johnson, 13, had to withdraw from the boys’ 14s due to an injury.

Mike Johnson, 12, lost in the consolation bracket, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6.

Sam Johnson, 11, lost in the consolation 6-4, 7-5.
