Swimming: Douglas keeps win streaks alive
The Douglas High swim team certainly didn’t show any signs of rust after the two-week spring hiatus.
The Lady Tigers swim team extended their all-sports school record win streak to 44 consecutive duals with a commanding win over Carson at the Carson Aquatic Center Saturday.
Douglas won every event on the day on its way to the overall win over Carson.
The Douglas boys reached a milestone of their own, moving their duals win streak to 30 with the victory over Carson.
On the girls’ side, freshman Shelby Koontz broke a school record for the fourth time this year, in her third different event, shaving two seconds off the previous best in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.77,
Koontz also won the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.14.
The Lady Tigers were impressive in the relays, winning the 200 medley relay (Meagan Skilling, Clara Gray, Emma Gray and Savannah Chappell) in 2:01.48, the 200 free relay (Anna Lancaster, Meagan Skilling, Rachel Chen, Shaelin Morefield) in 1:49.53 and the 400 free relay (Emma Gray, Savannah Chappell, Jordan Knowles and Morefield) in 4:04.64.
Savannah Chappell won the 200 IM with a time of 2:24.22. Knowles took third in the event. Chappell also won the 500 free, with Lancaster taking third.
Emma Gray, Erica Chappell and Audrey Muller went 1-2-3 in the 50 free.
Skilling and Knowles were second and third in the 100 fly. Skilling won the 100 backstroke, with Erica Chappell taking third.
Morefield won the 100 free, with Courtney McKimmey taking third. Morefield also won the 100 breaststroke.
On the boys’ side, Kyle Johnson, Andy Esparza, Kevin Smithen and Janosch Lancaster won the 200 free relay (1:41.34). Esparza, Logan Killion, Johnston and Adam Dack won the 400 free relay in 3:44.33.
Janosch Lancaster won the 200 free (1:56.62), followed by Kevin Smithen and Esparza in second and third. Lancaster also took second in the 100 breaststroke, followed by Ryan Chen.
Kyle Johnston won the 200 IM while Ryan Chen was third.
Johnston also won the 100 free.
Adam Dack won the 500 free and Killion took second. Dack was also third in the 100 back.
Eric Jacobs and Zack Singer went second and third in the 50 free.
Smithen took second in the 100 fly as well.
