Carson Valley Little League will conduct sign-ups for the 2012 season on Feb. 4 (9 a.m. to noon).

Sign-ups will be at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 920 Dump Road in Gardnerville.

Cost is $80 for T-ball, $90 for Minor A & B and $100 for Minor AA and Majors.

Parents must produce original, state-certified birth certificates and three proofs of residency for the children they register (acceptible residency forms are available online).

Douglas High School baseball and Carson Valley Little League will conduct a series of youth baseball clinics in January and February for players aged 6 to 13.

Clinic dates are Feb. 12 and Feb. 26 at Line Drive U in Minden.

A session for 6-9-year-olds will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on each clinic day while a session for 9-13-year-olds will run from 12 to 2 p.m.

Cost is $40 for all four sessions or $15 for an individual session.

Sessions will be instructed by Douglas High head coach Bruce Jacobsen along with Alex Sigheri, Cal Lewis, Teddy Foster, Kenny Nicoll, Matt Jacobsen and members of the varsity baseball team. Clinics will be focused on hitting, pitching, catching and fielding.

The Carson Valley Girls’ Softball will be holding sign-ups for the 2012 season at the Gardnerville Fire Station, 1255 Douglas Ave., on the following dates:

Wednesday, Feb. 8, 6 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 11, 4 to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 18, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sign-ups will not be accepted after Feb. 18.

Cost is $70 (ages 4 through 6), $75 (7 and older) and $150 maximum (family rate). A $10 discount is offered to those signing up on Jan. 21.

New players must bring copies of birth certificates. Returning players should bring completed registrations that are being mailed.

The Angler’s Edge will offer a two-week class on fly fishing and fly tying starting Feb. 11 at 8:30 a.m. a the Angler’s Edge in Gardnerville.

The class is taught by Liz Weirach, an owner of Angler’s Edge. She has developed many patterns that are used in the Eastern Sierra in both rivers and stillwater conditions. She was also an invited fly tier at the recent Federation Fly Fishers Festival in Reno.

Students will learn usage and procedures in fly tying to be confident to tie up to advanced patterns along with their own designs.

Class size is limited and reservations can be made by calling the Angler’s Edge at 782-4734.

Line Drive U in Minden will host a five-day hitting camp for youth baseball and softball players Feb. 22-26.

The camp will be facilitated by the Krush Hitting Company and Dream Team Softball Camps.

Featured clinicians are Billy Kehoe, who is considered one of the top hitting and coaching instructors in the world and has worked with many major leaguers, and Dena Tyson Slye, a former All-American and All-Pac 10 performer for the University of Washington.

Each camper will receive about eight hours of elite instruction, a nike dri-fit camp shirt and elite coaching.

Cost is $150 for Line Drive U members and $180 for non-members.

The camp is open to players ages 8 through 18 and sessions will be grouped by similar ages.

Various sessions are available. A free coaching clinic and Q&A session is scheduled for Feb. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department will take registration for its spring adult volleyball leagus through Feb. 24.

Cost is $200 per team through Feb. 17 and $225 after that.

Leagues being offered include 6-on-6 Women’s League (Mondays), 4-on-4 Open A League (Tuesdays), 6-on-6 Coed C League (Wednesdays) and 6-on-6 Coed B League (Thursdays).

Leagues will begin the week of March 5 and include at least eight regular season games and a postseason single-elimination tournament. All games will be played at Carson Valley Middle School.

Line Drive U in Minden will offer a one-day coaches clinic instructed by University of Nevada softball coach Matt Meuchel March 12.

A session for U6-U10 coaches runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and a session for U.12-U18 coaches will run from 7 to 9 p.m.

Cost is $20.

The Carson Valley Golf Course will host an introduction to junior golf clinic on April 14.

Children ages 5-6 go from noon to 1:15 p.m., 7-8 go 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. and 9-16 go 3 to 4:15 p.m.

Juniors will learn the basics of golf, including chipping, putting, full swing, rules & etiquette. Clubs, golf balls and refreshments will be provided.

Cost is $20.

Carson Valley Golf Course will host a six-week spring junior golf program starting the week of April 16 with Wednesday sessions at 4 and 5 p.m. and Saturday sessions at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.

Juniors will attend once a week for 50 minutes. Students will be grouped based on age and experience.

Cost is $130 for the six sessions and includes use of clubs, instruction and a junior range pass ($29 value). The program is open to ages 5-16. Discounts are available for families with more than one child participating.
