Youth volleyball league program to start next week
The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department will start accepting registration for its youth volleyball league season next week.
Early registration begins Monday and will continue until Feb. 5 for leagues that will be organized for grades third-through-12th grade. Play will be organized for beginner to advance players, emphasizing skill development and fun completion.
Participants will be assigned to a team through a draft system. Games will be played on week nights at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.
The cost is $80 until regular registration starts on Feb. 6, at which time the cost will be $90.
Volunteer coaches are needed to support the program. Coaches are required to go through an application and background check process that must be received by Feb. 19. Douglas County pays for the background checks.

Adult volleyball league sign-ups set to begin
Registration for the parks and recreation department’s adult spring volleyball league season is beginning on Jan. 11.
The early registration period will extend from Jan. 11 through Feb. 5, during which time the cost will be $200. A regular registration period will be held from Feb. 6-12, at which time the cost will be $250.
The regular season will include eight games, followed by a single-elimination tournament. All matches will be played on week nights at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.

‘Little Tykes’ indoor soccer to be offered
The parks and recreation department is starting a Little Tykes indoor soccer program for children ages 2 to 6.
Classes will be held at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center to provide an opportunity for young children to learn soccer. Two sessions are scheduled for toddlers ages 2-3, one on Mondays Jan. 11 through Feb. 29 from 9-9:45 a.m., and another on Sundays Jan. 10 through Feb. 21 from noon-12:45 p.m. Classes for children ages 4-6 will be held on the same dates with the same options, Mondays from 10-11 a.m. or Sundays from 1-2 p.m.
The cost is $65 per session.
Adult flag football sign-ups end Jan. 8
Registration for the parks and recreation department adult flag football league will come to an end on Jan. 8.
The cost is $530 per team and includes 10 regular season games and a post single elimination tournament. All games will be played a Ranchos Aspen Park.

Carson Valley Fastpitch registration to begin
Carson Valley Fastpitch is now accepting pre-registration for its 2016 season.
Preregistration on the organization’s website — carsonvalleyfastpitch.com — is required and payment must be brought to one of the four registration dates at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center:
■ Jan. 9 from noon-4 p.m.
■ Jan. 13 from 6-8 p.m.
■ Jan. 21 from 6-8 p.m.
■ Jan. 23 from noon-2 p.m.
New players need to provide a birth certificate copy.
Registration fees are $80 for players ages 4-6 and $85 for players 7-and-over, with a $160 maximum rate for a family. A $10 discount is available to players who have paid by Jan. 9. Coaches and sponsors are needed for the 2016 season.
Winter wilderness workshop at Sorensen’s
Sorensen’s Resort and Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team members will hold a winter wilderness survival workshop on Jan. 9 from 10 a.m.-noon in Hope Valley.
Participants will be guided through an easy snowshoe and cross-country ski trek. Guides will cover such details, as planning, preparation, proper attire, equipment, emergency shelters and more. Participants are encouraged to dress for the elements.
Registration is being accepted at Sorensen’s Resort. Participants will be asked for a recommended donation of $30 for TNSR $30 guests and $50 non-guests.
